Bisbee.
Early this morning I greeted Mr. Alex and we went to the cafe for breakfast. We ate bacon and eggs and I looked over at him. “So Mr. Alex… Trin’s friend gave me a candy stick last night. She gave it to me this morning and said it was from the man who sleeps on her couch.”
“Oh that’s awfully nice of him.”
“You should meet him,” I nodded.
“I still haven’t met the man who sleeps on her couch.”
“See if he good enough for Miss Trin. Since you’re her best friend.”
“I’m sure he is, she’s a smart woman. But I’d still like to meet him.”
“Uh huh. We got the boat from Mr Joe!”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah!”
“Does it float?”
“I dunno yet. Wanna try it out with me after?” I asked, picking away at my breakfast.
“Well, I’ll maybe watch yo from the shore. I don’t really like boats so much,” Alex chuckled.
“How come?”
“I don’t know. It’s an irrational fear.”
“What irrational mean?”
“It means it doesn’t have any sense. Like there’s really no reason for it.”
“Oh. Is it the water you scared of maybe?”
“Not really. I like to swim. It’s the boat, for some reason. I get all nervos in one and start to think I’m going to sink. Even if I’m in water that only goes to my knees. It’s weird.”
“Huh that no good. So you no like to fish from boat. Just shore.”
“It’s a good thing we live in the desert,” he chuckled. “Right, I prefer fishing on the shore.”
“That was yummy but not as good as your eggs,” I said, finishing my breakfast.
“Would you like to show me your boat?” he smiled.
“Yeah! Where?”
“We’ll need water.”
“Like um… You know where? There’s the river by the orphanage.”
“That wold work.”
Tombstone.
We walked down to the orphanage and looked at the river but I said, “Too many bridges.”
“Let’s keep walking. There’s more open water ahead. Is this enough?” he asked as we stopped further along the river.
We tried the boat on the water and were really happy with how it looked. I decided to head to the library and waved to Mr. Alex as we said goodbye.
