August 18, 1900

Tombstone.

This morning I saw Payton and waved to her. “Hi Payton.”

“Hey Nat,” Payton smiled but I could tell she hadn’t slept in a while.

I looked into Kate’s and saw Miss Paisley was in there and asked Payton, “What you drinking?”

“Orange juice… It’s on the bar inside…” she sipped on the cup.

“Oooh. Why you no like me no more? You keep giving me weird looks.”

“I still like you.. I jus don’… well not that I don’ like Trin an the law.. but.. the whole Mrs. Zan thing.. they tricked me an Zan got in trouble,” Payton smiled.

“But Miss Trin saved Zan.”

“Yeah.. but after all that.. Still made me look like a liar.”

“Why?”

“Cause Zan trusted me.. I didn’t know that the banker was also a lawman.. I told Zan that he could be trusted.. an he took her to jail.”

“Well then you should be mad at Mr. banker, not Trin.”

“It was because of Trin that I told Zan that…”

“Trin knew Mr. Marshal was also a banker at the time though. She told me all bout it. And they had to get her arrested so she could see her husband and kid and maybe remember. And she did! So it worked! And then Miss Trin helped them save this big case in New York.”

“Is what it is I guess... I ain’t mad at none of em no more anyway.. got my own things ta think about,” Payton nodded and sighed, taking another drink.

“Alright then. Guess I’m gonna go read more.”

“Be safe Natalie,” she nodded and I headed off to read in the library.
